Do not listen to any idiots like I did 7 years ago! I do not have any relatives here that's why had to leave my dog home. But 6 month later, my sister brought him to me. About the certificates, -- true. You have to obtain a certificate that states dog's information and all vaccinations. About the cage -- my sister's husband did it himself because my dog was too big to fit in any cages I can find in stores. You also have to obtain some kind of certificate from your town Kenolog's association saying that your dog is not used fro breeding and he is not a treasure of the country!
I advise you also to have some cash in your packet because the veterinarian at the airport definitely will want it!!!

My dog was flying in special part of plane along with baggage (I do not know for sure where). I met them (my dog and my sister) at the airport and there is absolutely no any "quarantine"! I wait for the baggage and the people who usually bring luggage brought the cage with my dog to me right from the flight!
About airlines, flights, and time of the year when you flying,-- this is another story. First of all, you better choose a non-stop flight because it is very hard to the dog to do a couple of arrivals and departures! You can't see him during the stop and the worst part is that if you flying during the Summer, the airlines sometimes even worn you that you can't take any animals because they might die during stops from hit and exhaustion!
So, if you planning to fly during the Summer or when the weather still hot, think twice about taking any animals with you! Better wait till the late Fall --early Winter.
Now, about an apartment. It is true that you will have troubles to find an apartment if you have a dog. Even if you get one, usually it will cost you more (from $50 to $150 a month more depending on the location and landlord's mood!) Later on, when you want to bay your own place (I am talking apartment, not house!) some apartment buildings have management associations which can have rules that not allow you to have a dog in that building! It leads you to either looking for another apartment or baying a house!
Also, after you arrive and rent an apartment, you have to go to Town Hall or City Hall and register your dog right away. Usually it cost about $10 per year, but you have to write there a date of your dog's last Rubies vaccination.
They will give your dog two tags with numbers which you have to put on his collar. Your dog must be on leash always when you walking him outside, otherwise, if he bites, you will have a lot of trouble never mind paying all yours and other party (whom your dog bit) bills! The sum of the bill sometimes running around $250-$400 depending on damage and veterinarian hospital!
Another aspects here are dog's diseases and veterinarians. The only thing veterinarians want is money, that's why they could not think about real cause of your dog's disease. They will offer you to fix (nudered) your dog right away, first of all because it is cost money and second, they will have thousands stupid explanations non of each is true. The only advice I can give you, -- find a Russian veterinarian!
So, as you can see, it is not easy to have a dog here, but if you are really love him, you will be able to manage!

It's about the same I think for that, but I was confused by one title in the press some monthes ago (there was about a carantine for 6 monthes and some other awful things).
This dog is very important for me.. I thing (not for a joke) "God send me this dog" - after I lost my 1st dog (for my blame) - I find she on the 3d day (she is a airdele-terriere (sorry I don't know correct english name for this breed) for a pure breed... (in "more dead then alive" state)... and she lives with me more than 8 yrs already... And I'm ready to have some obstacles for she...
PS: Our veterinars currently are little bit better... At least in the private clinics - I know some excellent doctors to care by doggy... But there are quite high prices... 1-2-3 hundreds $... (can't say the same for state vet.clinics :( - there are just awful... I know some cases when animals dead after death clearance... :(
